If you have sleep apnoea having a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment is definitely a must.

But no matter how strict and diligent you are in doing your CPAP therapy, there’ll be a time when you need to skip it.

Skipping CPAP for one night can be okay, however, if you take a break for several days, the swelling of the tissues that lines the airway in your nose and throat may return.

The Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine has found out that not using your CPAP machine while having sleep apnoea can increase the probability of being hospitalized again.

Dr. Behrouz Jafari said that any patient who came from the hospital for an orthopedic surgery, pneumonia, or any reason at all – who also has sleep apnea can be re-admitted back to the hospital in a short span of 30 days if he/she doesn’t use his/her CPAP machine.

Not only that, but not complying with your CPAP treatment can also lead you to being readmitted to the hospital due to heart disease.

So, if you’re considering taking a break or have already taken a break from your CPAP therapy, make sure to get back into it as soon as possible.

If the main reason for skipping CPAP is related to discomfort contact your sleep therapist for guidance or you can contact us at www.sleepclinicservices and we’ll be happy to help you get a better and greater sleep.
