Emerald Sleep Clinic

Thu, Feb 24, 2011

Our Emerald regional sleep clinic will soon be operating, adding regional sleep clinic support to another area of Queensland.  The clinic will be based in one of the local Emerald medical practices, supported by both local and visiting staff.

Diagnostic sleep studies (polysomnograms) will be available through the Emeral sleep clinic, using portable diagnostic recorders.  These recorders offer patients the convenience of having the study performed over night in the comfort and privacy of their own home, rather than in a distant hospital-based sleep lab environment.  As well as being more convenient and less expensive, these studies are also considered to record a more typical night's sleep and so allow a better diagnosis.

Patients undergoing sleep studies at the Emerald sleep clinic will also have access to treatments for snoring and sleep apnoea, through the clinic and associated local practitioners.

If you live in or around Emerald and suspect you may have a sleep disordered breathing condition, call 07 3218 2171 to talk with a friendly treatment coordinator.

Common symptoms of sleep disordered breathing include snoring, waking tiredness, daytime sleepiness, fatigue, loss of libido, acid reflux and morning headaches.

Left untreated, sleep disordered breathing can lead to hypertension, type 2 diabetes, ischemic heart disease, impotence and much more.
